In order to gauge your green contributions it is helpful to create your own Green Checklist of things that you have already accomplished. With that said here is the checklist for Magicomm LLC.

  • Recycling: Currently recycling all office paper and metals. Partnered with an Ewaste recycling company.
  • Lights: Always turn out lights when we are not in the office. Use half of the lights most of the time.
  • Natural Light: Use as much natural light as possible to reduce the amount of electricity used to light the office.
  • Telecommuting: During the summer, when the gas prices were out of control, we implemented a telecommuting policy where employees would work from home for 1 day/week. This saves a lot of gas and reduces our emissions significantly. With this simple implementation we were able to reduce our carbon emissions and gas consumption by 20%.
  • Reduction of paper consumption: Increased our communication through emails, PDFs, etc.
  • Thermostat: Try to keep it a couple of degrees cooler in the winter and a little bit warmer in the summer to save money on heat and AC.
  • Buy environmentally friendly office supplies.
  • Reduced computer energy by changing settings to hibernate when not used over a long period of time.
  • Winterized windows to reduce draftiness (saves heat).
  • Minimized our café appliances energy output by switching to more energy efficient appliances.

Basically, by implementing these simple new strategies we feel better about our efforts and we feel we are doing our part. Saving money and helping the environment is worth the effort.

How many of these things is your company doing?

What other types of things can you recommend we do?

I Look forward to your suggestions!
